How to Set Up GeyserMC on a Paper Server (Java + Bedrock Crossplay)

How to Set Up GeyserMC on a Paper Server (GigaNodes Guide)

Overview

GeyserMC allows Minecraft Bedrock Edition players (Android, iOS, consoles, Windows 10/11) to join a Java Edition Minecraft server seamlessly.

At GigaNodes, we support GeyserMC on our high-performance Paper servers, enabling smooth cross-platform gameplay without compromising server stability.

Important: GeyserMC does not convert your server into Bedrock Edition.
It works as a protocol bridge that translates Bedrock traffic into Java-compatible packets.

Requirements

Before proceeding, ensure your server meets the following requirements:

  • A PaperMC server hosted on GigaNodes

  • Java 17 or newer

  • FTP / File Manager access

  • Ability to restart the server

  • Open UDP port (default: 19132)

Step 1: Install Floodgate (Required)

Floodgate allows Bedrock players to join your Java server without requiring a Java Edition account.

Download Floodgate

Install Floodgate

  1. Upload the Floodgate JAR file to:

    /plugins

  2. Restart your server

  3. Confirm installation by running:

    /plugins

Floodgate should appear in the list

Step 2: Install GeyserMC

GeyserMC handles the Bedrock-to-Java communication.

Download GeyserMC

  • Download Geyser-Spigot
(Use Spigot/Paper version unless you are running Velocity or BungeeCord)

Install GeyserMC

  1. Upload the GeyserMC JAR file to:

    /plugins

  2. Restart your server

  3. After startup, a new directory will be created:

    /plugins/Geyser-Spigot/

Step 3: Configure GeyserMC

Open the configuration file:

/plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml

Java Server Connection

If GeyserMC is installed on the same server:

remote:
  address: 127.0.0.1
  port: 25565

Bedrock Listener Port

bedrock:
  port: 19132
  • Make sure UDP port 19132 is open in your GigaNodes firewall or control panel

  • You may change this port if needed

Authentication Mode

Choose the correct authentication mode based on your server setup:

Online-mode Java servers

auth-type: online

Offline / Cracked servers

auth-type: floodgate

Step 4: Restart Your Server

Restart your Paper server once configuration is complete.

You should see the following in the console:

[Geyser] Geyser successfully started

Step 5: Connecting from Bedrock Edition

Bedrock players can now connect using:

  • Server Address: Your GigaNodes server IP

  • Port: 19132 (or your custom port)

Supported platforms:

  • Android & iOS

  • Xbox / PlayStation / Nintendo Switch

  • Windows 10 / 11 Bedrock Edition

Recommended Plugin Compatibility

For best performance on GigaNodes, we recommend:

Avoid outdated or unsupported plugins that may cause conflicts.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

GeyserMC Not Enabling

Possible causes:

  • Using an outdated Paper build

  • Running Java below version 17

  • Using a snapshot or unsupported Geyser version

Solution:
Update Paper, Java, and GeyserMC to their latest stable versions.

Bedrock Players Cannot Join

Check the following:

  • UDP port 19132 is open

  • Firewall is not blocking UDP traffic

  • Correct IP and port are entered on Bedrock client

ExceptionInInitializerError

This error is usually caused by:

  • Java version mismatch

  • Incompatible Paper build

  • Outdated Geyser snapshot

Fix:
Upgrade Java to 17+, update Paper, and reinstall the latest GeyserMC release.

Performance Notes

  • GeyserMC benefits from strong single-core CPU performance

  • GigaNodes servers are optimized for low latency and high TPS

  • Always keep plugins updated for maximum compatibility
